I did the face mask and had to rinse it off about a minute later. It burned terribly!! Is that normal?

    • Katherina December 30, 2014 at 5:20 pm #

      Hi Dawn,
Usually it is not supposed to burn, but it can happen that if your skin is extremely sensitive or reactive, either lemon juice or honey might give you a burning sensation. What you can do is use a few drops of extra-virgin olive oil in place of lemon juice and see how your skin reacts. Olive oil is a great moisturizer and a beauty elixir for the skin.

Another thing might be that you are allergic to honey, and it gives you a burning sensation or even a rash. Personally I cannot use honey on my face as it gives me a rash and irritates my skin. What I recommend is to do a test: apply some honey on your elbow or wrist first, wait 5 minutes to see if your skin can tolerate it, then rinse. If you don’t get any irritation, try using it on your face. Hope these tips help!

So please what do I use in place of the honey ? Because am having the same burning sensation

    • Katherina September 16, 2015 at 5:55 am #

Hi Naa, you can use a few things in place of honey: plain yogurt is very beneficial for oily skin, while for dry or normal skin I would use a banana squashed into a paste + cinnamon and a few drops of almond oil.

So can I use this cinnamon hair thing when my hair is dry? If not, what happens if I do?

    • Katherina March 5, 2016 at 5:57 am #

Hi Emily, the cinnamon mask has olive oil in it, so it won’t dry your hair. It will actually moisturize it and make it softer. If you have very dry hair, make sure you use conditioner after you rinse the mask off.

I used Ion Color Defense After Color Sealer instead of conditioner and broke out in hives. I know it wasn’t the honey or the cinnamon cause I have done all of these masks before. Any idea what may have caused hives? If not no worries. I love this page <3 I also recommend using coconut oil on your hair in addition to these. (:
